Wing foil season kick off at Torkilstranda

March at Torkilstranda never arrives gently. The air is sharp and unforgiving, and the water—fed by an inlet still shedding winter’s last slabs of ice—hovers just above freezing. The light is flat, almost monochrome, setting a stark stage for the start of the season.

As local foilers Solveig Jarman-Larsen, Frode Mortensen, Christian Nerdrum, Sondre Taubøll Wick, and Fredrik Schüller head out for their first sessions of 2026, one thing is clear—winter hasn’t slowed progression; if anything, it has pushed it further.
The cold is relentless.
“I had to wave my arms around just to stay warm,” parawinger Sondre laughs after returning to shore.

The atmosphere shifts from sunny to foggy within minutes. As the landscape fades into mist, one of Norway’s most experienced watermen, Christian Nerdrum, moves with a Jagger-like ease against the foggy backdrop of Jeløya.

It’s early-season riding at its purest—perfectly suited to black-and-white photography.
Torkilstranda in March is a playground for enthusiasts. Those who show up are rewarded with supreme conditions—and the occasional touch of frostbite.
